Well, I dont mean to brag. But I´m kind of the pioneer of Structures. I Pitched some ideas on how to pull of Custom Structures, and I think they even helped.
So, nope I didn´t use any Tutorials/Examples. All build and learned from Scratch, but over a rather long time. I dont put much stuff out, and keep things mostly for myself, but I have a tendency to Understand stuff quick.
To the "Ruins", yeah I made a "Ruins" Structure. It was a very big Failure, but it failed so hard it looked good. Dont know if you mean the same though.
Buuut, Lets get Technical:
The City spawns in the Middle always as a Tower. Because I like them. From that Point the City is divided into 12 Distritcs. Each District is made up out of 9 Cells (15X15). (3 Districts North, South, West and East each).
These Districts have all 4 different Layouts.
These LayOuts will spawn either a Placeholder "Room", "Path", or "Plaza" object.
Which in Return will Spawn the Structures. That way I can Easily add new Parts to the City Without Sifting through 60 Objects. I would Just need to change the 4 "Room" Objects and add a new Room to the Branch.
Each Cell may have a Path, Plaza or Room.
Rooms are Fix Structures and get chosen Randomly between 4-5 Different Rooms/Houses. Most Houses have variations for a DeadEnd, Straight Through, 3 Way or 4 Way Cross. Some only work as DeadEnd.
The Plazas, Pathways and Large Towers work a bit Different to conserve Objects.
Each part consists of 4 Parts. (North,East,West,South) and can be joined together to make any combination of Pathways. That way I can create (in Example of the Path) 12 Different Path Objects with only 2 Parts. I have one Path Entry, and 2 Path "End" parts. So a Path that will go Straight will have 2 Entrys that meet in the Middle, and 2 End parts that will be Left and Right of the Path. That way I can Achieve a kind of Random look even if I just stack Straight Pathes.
Finally the Towers or Second Layer feels a bit Cheaty. The Towers have a "Fixed" Spawnpoint, thay may or may not Spawn only once in each District. They also consist of 4 Parts, an Entry Part and Wall Part. Both have Variations for a SecondLevel Exit. 2 Opposit Sides of the Tower may Generate a Upper Exit where a 4 way CrossPath will generate and 3 Rooms. I have Chosen that approach to prevent overlapping.
And Shameless advertising:
Also my BO3BulkEdit did an Awesome Job of removing the PlaceHolders and adjusting the Object Center, and Replacing Random stuff.
The "Export" Process for the Structures and Finishing them Up for Use only took around 20minutes.
