So, In light of the weird happenings in the last forum update -- and the gross limitations imposed by an old OS version -- I'm just going to go ahead and attempt to migrate these forums to AWS before this
Sunday, June 26th, 2016; No promises. I'm not going to schedule anything because my schedule this weekend is a little in flux at the moment, more details to come.
Promises I can make: I will not to do anything if more than 1-2 people are online when I go to do the migration and I will give a 15-30 minute warning in a banner topic -- like I usually do for formal updates. I will also limit the read-only time to 30 minutes. Hopefully most of you will be asleep or doing something else
What's going to happen exactly?: At first, the forums will be put into read-only mode. I will then copy the data over to the new AWS forum and flip a switch that will make it so that when you go to forum.mctcp.com it will send you to AWS instead of here. The AWS site will initially be in read-only mode as well but after 5 or so minutes of live AWS traffic I will turn off read-only mode and everything will be back to normal -- just instead of your requests being sent to the ground it'll be sent to the CLOUDs. fancy.
Should I know about anything else?: Yes, the first time you login to the forum on the new AWS instance you might have to re-accept your google or github login permissions. This is the same thing you agreed to when you originally signed in to these forums and doesn't give us any information other than what is listed (read-only access to your email address for github, super basic stuff...). Other than this and the fresh ozone smell you shouldn't notice the forum is on AWS.
Any questions or concerns, feel free to PM me.
