Soo, I was thinking, because everyone has his own ShowCase, i thought I will make my own too.
Because, i cant be left out, can I?
I use TerrainControl since almost forever, some people know me, most probably dont.
I usually dont showcase much of my Stuff or share it, because I mainly create for my Server.
I´m quite adept at making Structures and the technical standpoint of TerrainControl.
That means: I usually know how to make stuff, but I lack the creativity/drive to envision grand stuff.
Most of the time its the thrill of: "How can I pull this off" that drives me forward, and then I lose interest if the result is "Acceptable" or "Working".
Because: Working is Good enough. And Good Enough is Perfect. Well sadly not in cases of Worlds or Aesthetics.
Now, my current world of my Server is around 2-3 years Old, sadly there are also numerous ressources Missing.
So, time for a new one.
Because of my usual mentality this Project will be quite hard. Because, the goal is not my usual: "Good Enough"
With that, up to my Project:
Over the time of MineCraft there wer countless "SkyLands" worlds, biomes, plugins, gamemodes and so on.
My Current world could be called a SkyWorld because its hosted on several Huge Continents inside the Void.
My new Goal is to take this a bit further, realy SkyLands. - Crappy MSPaint Concept art Incoming:
Left Side is the way I want to have the Biomes. The LightPurple is Void, while the Different Colors are different Biomes. (They are not all Biomes I will do, that is not final) I want Islands with more Biomes, aswell als little Island Groups with singleBiome Islands, (Maybe Conected by Landbridges)
The Second side is the SideView of one Island, they will be Generated above the Void, and wont have Bedrock. And will have less depth to the outer edges of the Island, while the Depth at the core will be quite deep, maybe up to 96 blocks.
Further, the Line in the Middle would be the Cloud Layer. That means the level of the Surface on the Islands should be at least 130-140.
Different Island Heights were an Idea, but I dismissed them for GamePlay reasons. Would make Connection the Islands with Bridges Tedious and Annoying.
As for Biomes, I will start with the Default Biomes, Cold Biomes, Warm Biomes, Forests, Plains, Mountains.
Aswell as Nether Islands, and EndIslands.The Latterare kind of Special, and I might make them with different heights.
Every Project needs to follow some Order, The better the WorkOrder the more Efficient the workflow.
The Most important part of the whole project are the Islands, as most people might expect, those Islands need heave CHC.
So, I will first create the Neccessary Blank biomes for the Islands. I will then use BiomeInheritance to clone the CHC setting for each individual Biome, that way I can lessen the Workload to tweak (probably) several Hundred biomes for CHC.
I plan on using maybe 10-15 biomes for that, if needed more. This will probably limit me with the actual amount of different Biomes I can use. Because each and every Biome needs those different "subBiomes".
The Second Task would be the Biomes, I dont think I will do as many "fancy" biomes as other People. My goal is Gameplay. Its nice to render awesome Pictures with huge MountainRanges, Forests and stuff.
But lets be honest: Minecraft cant do that very well. Especially in a Server enviroment.
So, I will have the Biomes be simpler, because while it may be beautifull to have 20 kinds of Forests, I dont think it will offer much more GamePlay, on contrary many Custom Trees are a Pain in the A** to cut down.
World Generation, I was bouncing Ideas back and forth on how I would generate the World, using FromImage, or RandomMode. Both bring Pros and Cons.
The Big Pro for RandomMode is, that I nice Biome Outlines, drawing a decent map takes a huge amount of time. And you need to include every detail. It easily looks bland or has straight biome edges. RandomMode makes this Much Easier.
With FromImage mode, its easier to actually do the Biomes, especially if they need to be nested inside of each other. I dont think multi Biome islands would be Possible.
With that I came to the Conclusion: I will use an Hybrid Approach. I will generate the Basic Biomes and Groups with RandomMode, and save the BiomeMap. Then I take these Islands and sort them Into the actual Biomes.
To make this Process Easier I want to use a kind of reverse Heightmap. Each Biome gets a "Default" color. And then I make them for the different Zones darker. With this I can easily Adjust the BiomeMap for the different Biomes I need to make the Islands.
Custom Objects/Structures, one might argue that this step comes before. But I think with the Special way the World will be Generated I need to make the Structures with the Actual world, some will be also made beforehand for the Biomes.
There are many Occasions where Objects might float, or get generated where they are not supposed to, that will take some thought on the Object side to ensure they are doing what they are Supposed to do.
I´m not worried here.
I will need:
Strongholds - Large Structures. I thought about making them a bit random. But not too random. With more Layers, I want this to be a Highlight, i thought about making it really dynamic.
Parts Underground would only Spawn Rooms, and hallways. While Parts outside the Ground will spawn Bridges, Buildings and stuff, I have some basic Ideas on how I could do it, but its going to be much work.
Dungeons - Basic Dungeons, not much to say. They need a good set of BlockChecks, and maybe some features. I think I could do more similar Variants with some Traps. But they wont be Structures, because of neccessary BlockChecks.
EndCity - While my EndCity is basically great, I still think I could do better, and really. I dont like it. Basically its Crap, also sometimes it doesnt work. Bullshit!
NetherFortress - My Current NetherFortress aged quite a bit. Time for a new one. See the same as with the Strongholds, those offer a great deal of Opportunity to be Awesome.
RandomStuff - There can be a ton of essentially useless stuff around. From Huts, to towers, to Ruins. The point is, to add a bit of athmosphere without hindering or annoying players. I can easily repurpose old stuff from my map for that.
TerrainFormations - These are Hard for me, I never seem to get them right, but they are sometimes Important, these will be probably made beforhand, to fit the Biomes, maybe I will kindly ask BlackEagle for some of his.
