We just completed a Vanilla Woodland Mansion. Details on illagers are out, and common knowledge.
The loot was ok, and it was fun enough while it lasted, but it was over too quickly for us, even on "hard" mode. The build is interesting enough as a place to take over and have as a base. Once the illagers are dead, they do not respawn. That is a good thing they do not respawn, as it would be trivial to turn it into an AFK Emerald Farm, which would be VERY OP. That, and the Totem of Undying would make Woodland Mansions horribly OP.
That said... the experience was disappointing to us. I asked how it stacked up against Dynamo, and the group felt it didn't hold a candle. We enjoy having a boss, a very strong, difficult mob to tackle that indicates we have completed the dungeon, and now we get to sort the loot. We also enjoy having named trophies, such as nice named weapons that the boss would drop, or trophy heads, player heads that are being used for the mob "disguised" as a boss, or "minion" trophy heads. The heads don't do anything, of course, except serve as unique decoration: I did The Thing. And the Thing we did was difficult enough to have us feel a sense of accomplishment.
We had already planned to turn the Woodland Mansion over to one of the members, so we didn't chew it up as we went. We didn't have to. We did place torches and light it up as we went, which of course kept normal mobs from spawning up behind us. We also used a cobble block in the entry way to mark rooms we've cleared so we didn't bother coming back through it again.
Dynamo has unique mobs that would pour out of a given room. It is difficult to get to the spawners to deactivate them. The design of the structures worked with the theme of the mob to make it "fitting", and left us with a sense of accomplishment. Dynamo left us more with a sense of let-down, the same "defeating" a Jungle Temple or Desert Temple.
I thought I would post that while the feeling is fresh, and say how much we really look forward to putting in the Dynamo map.
